There are two parts to a successful download. The first is to save the files to your computer. The second is to run an executable file that will complete the upgrade.

Part One: Download Your New Software.

1. Click here for the Netscape site for downloading Netscape 6.1.

2. Click the Download button.

3. Follow the instructions to choose the Windows operating system and the language for Netscape 6.1.

4. When you are finished making choices, click the Download Now button.

   Note: You may see more than one window, including ads, that contain Download Now buttons. Be sure to click the Download Now button for the product you want to install.

5. When the "Save As" dialog box appears, choose a folder for the Netscape 6.1 setup file (N6Setup.exe) you are downloading. Be sure to remember the folder you choose. We recommend you save it to your desktop so it is easy to find.

6. Close your browser window.

1. Using the run command, run the Netscape 6.1 setup file (N6Setup.exe) from where you saved it (desktop). If you did not save it to your desktop, go to Windows Explorer to locate your file.

   or

2. Open Windows Explorer, locate N6Setup.exe and double click the file to start the installation.

3. Read the instructions on each screen, and do the following:
   • Read the Welcome screen, and then click "Next."

   • Read the license agreement. To accept the agreement, click "Accept" and go to the next screen. If you click "No," installation will not continue.

   • Choose a type of Setup or installation, such as "Recommended," "Full," or "Custom." Also, choose a destination directory (folder). If you install your new software into the Netscape folder that contains a previous version of Netscape 6, your current version will be overwritten, but you can still use your existing bookmarks, preferences, and settings. If you wish to keep a copy of the old version as a backup, simply choose or create a new folder for the software you are about to install. Click "Next."

   • Choose "Save installer files locally" if you want to save all the setup files to your hard drive. Choosing this allows you to re-install Netscape 6.1 later without having to download the files again. If you want to use a proxy, click "Proxy Settings" and type your proxy server, port, user ID, and password. You can also choose to use either FTP or HTTP for downloading files. Click "Next" to go to the next screen.

4. After you have made your selections, click "Install."

5. During installation you can click "Pause" to temporarily stop downloading setup files. Click "Resume" to start downloading the setup files again from where installation last stopped.

6. After installation is complete, Netscape 6.1 will start automatically.
