Detailed Information for One Stop Counselors
When trying to find the right job within a short period of time, individuals need tools to
help them find accurate information to aid them in making wise decisions. As a sister
product to CareerWay, CareerWay Express is a fast and easy application offering assessments
and research developed specifically for the One Stop center population. CareerWay
Express helps identify what jobs may match an individual and simplifies on-line research
by offering information from respected sources at the click of a mouse. In addition,
individuals can identify their own needs for a job, as well as what skills and abilities are
important to each job. Providing realistic job information helps the job seeker to make
educated, informed choices about their future.
Automation vs. Participation:
Job seekers should be engaged in the career exploration
process. CareerWay Express is designed to
balance automated job matching information with active participation by the
user. The individual can spend as much
or as little time as he/she wants researching jobs, taking assessments, and
evaluating job-fit. CareerWay Express can be
tailored to the individual – they can take as many or as few assessments as they
want to, or as you recommend. Through
encouraging active participation, CareerWay Express helps facilitate educated and
informed career choices where the individual has ownership of the final
decision.
Gap Analysis Reports:
Through gap analysis reports, individuals can identify how well
they fit a job and evaluate where they are willing to make trade-offs. This feature helps one-stop center clients identify
what jobs they are ready for now versus jobs for which they need to prepare.
Facilitates the Counseling Process:
CareerWay Express is an interactive career program; not a “career test.” Which assessments an individual takes and time spent using the system can be easily geared to an individual's current situation or learning style.
Job seekers are likely to be interested in learning how to apply their training and experience in a career and discovering any gaps they may have in their abilities and skills in order to pursue a new career. While Careerway Express is a “stand alone” tool and does not need counselor interpretation, counselors can enhance the process by working with clients to make realistic job choices that are short-term or long-term focused.
FILTERS:
Encourage individuals to make use of the filters tab to help narrow
their career list.
- If an individual does not have a college degree, have them select:
"Show jobs that typically do not require a college degree or equivalent experience."
OR
"Show jobs that typically require some type of degree."
If they are also interested in developing a plan for long-term career choices,
they will be able to adjust this filter to include jobs requiring education or experience.
ASSESSMENTS: The CareerWay Express system offers three assessments: Interests,
Transferable Skills, and Abilities. These assessments will
aid individuals looking to transfer their current background and experience. One Stop center
counselors can introduce CareerWay Express to individuals and advise which of the three assessments to
complete first to get them started on their career search.
MILITARY: Individuals looking to transition from the military should utilize the
"Military" option of the system. This feature will help them find assorted
civilian jobs associated with military experience and training.
JOB TASKS: The primary problem of many job and career seekers is the lack of concrete information regarding the reality of an occupation.
- Individuals may click on "Job Tasks" to
get a better understanding of the critical aspects of the job of their interest.
- This may be a great tool within counseling sessions for counselors to help
individuals gain a practical and outlook regarding various careers.
